Walking in True Freedom

As I embrace this Flourishing Friday with you, I can’t help but to be grateful as I remember where I’ve come from. Years ago, I didn’t know what real freedom was, I didn’t know what it felt like. These days people refer to freedom as being able to do what you want but that’s not the exact freedom I’m referring to. I’m meaning being free from bondage, brokenness, fear, people, the past, etc. At one point in my life, I felt so stuck. I never thought I could be free. I was broken, lost, afraid, and unsure of who I was. I felt like I would live in my brokenness forever. I couldn’t see past where I was. I would pray to be set free but never believed I could. I thought the damage was already done. But God still showed up even when it seemed impossible. I remember the day God gave me the opportunity to start completely over and be free. I had to make the choice to leave my relationship, my friendships, and places behind. I had to let the old me die in order to accept my new freedom. It was scary at first because I didn’t know what life would be like. But it was the best decision I ever made. Over time, I saw God put me back together better than I was before. I started living again, embracing my singleness, and building the life I dreamed of. I was doing things I never thought I would be able to do again. God gives us the opportunity to be free every day but we have to make the decision to accept it.
Whatever area in life you may feel stuck in, can be changed. You don’t have to stay there. You don’t have to continue to live that life of brokenness and unhappiness. No matter how dark it seems, there’s freedom waiting for you. God can turn anything around, there’s nothing too big for him. He’s just waiting for you to make the decision and turn to him.
If you don’t know where to begin here are a few steps that helped me embrace my freedom:
1. Believe you are set free
Freedom begins in our hearts. If you don’t believe it, it won’t happen. Get a vision of yourself being free.
2. Surrender it all to God
In order to be truly free, you have to give it all to God. You can’t just give some habits, addictions, relationships, you have to give it all.
3. Choose freedom every day
Being free is a daily choice. The old "you" will always try to come back, so you have to choose freedom every day as you walk fully in it.

4. Don’t look back
Being free requires you to walk through the door and close it. Not leaving it open for you to go in and out. Accept freedom and leave your past behind. Leave your mistakes behind. It’s a new day, a new season, a new you. Don’t accept the old things anymore. Turn towards freedom.
Embrace your new beginning and start building the life you dream of. There’s no greater blessing than being free from things that are holding you back.
“He is so rich in kindness and grace that he purchased our freedom with the blood of his Son and forgave our sins.”
Ephesians 1:7
